On 23 May, the final of the 6th National College Teachers’ Self-made Experimental Teaching Instruments and Equipment Innovation Competition ended in Qingdao. The “Mechanical Properties Tester for Materials under Complex Working Conditions” independently developed by Professor Zhao Hongwei’s team at Jilin University won the first prize in the free design category, achieving a breakthrough of zero first prize in Jilin University.

A total of 127 domestic universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Beihang University participated in the competition, and 351 excellent works were shortlisted for the final, with a total of 12 first prizes and 40 second prizes. Jilin University won one first prize, one second prize, and three third prizes. “Mechanical Properties Tester for Materials under Complex Working Conditions” has been successfully applied to the teaching of mechanics of materials with its advanced and original technology. It has enabled innovative application in mechanics experimental teaching. After fierce competition in on-site review and defense, the project won the first prize in the free design category with the highest score in the group and the bronze award in the commercial roadshow category.

As a national competition organized by the China Association of Higher Education, it aims at improving teachers’ teaching and research ability in talent training and promoting the reform and innovation of experimental teaching methods and teaching approaches in colleges and universities. The competition displayed a large number of representative excellent self-made teaching instruments and equipment, witnessing the reform and innovation of college teachers’ experimental teaching, and the industrial upgrading and development in the field of educational equipment.
