Overview

SMAE has 2 first-level disciplines authorized to offer doctoral degrees, which are Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics. It was allowed to grant professional doctorate degree in Advanced Manufacturing in 2011. There are two post doctorate stations in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics.

The Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Mechanical Design and Theory, Mechatronic Engineering of SMAE are ranked as secondary-level state key disciplines in China. The Mechatronic Engineering is honored as a national key discipline for national defense in 2017. Its Mechanical Engineering ranks top 10% amongst 189 universities in mainland China and the Discipline of Engineering is ranked top 1% in the renowned ESI ranking.

There are 14 ministerial and provincial science and technology innovation platforms, 1 national quality inspection center and 1 national accredited laboratory, and a National Joint Training and Exemplary Base for Graduates in the Degree of Engineering. The Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing, the Institute of Aerospace Engineering and the Institute of Jilin University Chongqing Institute are under construction. The State Key Laboratory of Automobile Simulation and Control and the National Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Engineering Bionics have been built.
